Ancona Chickens were developed in Italy in the mid 19th century and are very closely related to the Leghorn. Anconas are very hardy, even in the cold, just take precaution with their large combs. Anconas are good foragers and do well in free range situations. Their quick and alert temperament combined with their dark color make the Ancona an excellent choice in areas where birds of prey pose a serious threat.
Anconas lay 4-6+ white eggs per week in season. Anconas are a beautiful mottled pattern with irridescent green-black feathers with white tips throughout. They have a single comb, yellow skin, and clean legs.
